* There are many ways that wood can be considered "strong" including how much it will elongate or compress. * Knowing the way that a certain type of wood is strong means that we can use it more effectively. * Knots make wood weaker. * Wood is stronger along the grain, or up and down along the fibers, than it is across the grain.
